Jostefonn Restaurant
Sit down at your table in our restaurant and let your eyes rest on the fjord and mountain peaks, with glimpses of Jostefonn – a small glacier beside the great Jostedalsbreen. Does the food taste even better when accompanied by the most beautiful view from your seat?
In our little restaurant, Jostefonn, we serve traditional dishes and house specialties made from local ingredients. We strive to keep things as local as possible.
As a small business, we take pride in strengthening our community by supporting one another. That’s why we aim to source everything as close to home as we can.
With us, you can enjoy our signature venison burger, lamb that has grazed in Grøndalen near Jostefonn, veal from neighbouring farms, or locally smoked salmon from the fjord.
Opening hours
Our restaurant, Jostefonn, is open for dinner service from 18:00 to 21:00 every evening during the summer season. Reservations must be made before 18:00.
We serve an à la carte menu, and on selected evenings we offer the chef’s three-course menu.
Outside the main season, we host various events such as Chef’s Table and Chef’s Dinner in collaboration with guest chefs and the culinary team from Matgal.

Outdoor Terrace & Garden Lounge
The fjord view is always best outdoors, and we offer a beautiful outdoor terrace and a spacious garden lounge where you can enjoy the scenery to the fullest.
Here you can sit comfortably and peacefully, letting your gaze create a memory for life. In the small gazebo, we also run a charming little shop.
On the terrace and in the garden lounge, we serve coffee, tea, and refreshments, and we occasionally host small events.

Our Sustainable Approach
We want to support Norwegian agriculture and contribute to a more sustainable world. That’s why we always use Norwegian products, and we source our ingredients locally whenever possible. In our surrounding area, we are fortunate to have skilled farmers, hunters, and suppliers who deliver high-quality ingredients and with whom we have strong collaborations.
All of Sogn and the neighbouring regions offer genuine and exceptional products of many kinds. We truly appreciate this, and it brings us great joy to have such quality right on our doorstep. Here, you will always find Norwegian ingredients—preferably as local as possible—and every dish is homemade.
Culinary joy and experiences beyond the ordinary
From time to time, and most often outside the main season, we host gourmet evenings with an extra culinary touch. It all began with our collaboration with Thomas from Matgal, who created the very first Chef’s Table – a nine-course menu served on a bright and beautiful June evening in 2021. The meal was prepared and served both outdoors and indoors.
Since then, our gourmet evenings have grown, often in collaboration with talented guest chefs.
Chef’s Dinner is our five-course signature experience, crafted by our head chef, Daniel, who brings his personal touch to every dish. This is offered outside the main season or by request.
We also arrange Afternoon Tea & Coffee outside the main season. We follow the rhythm of the year and offer menus of both sweet and savoury flavours, always inspired by the season we are in – spring, autumn, or Christmas.
